behind the painting - yellow house

I recently listed this painting in my online shop.

And I realized that, to most people, it's probably kind of...weird?  I mean, trees and windows aren't weird.  But they are oddly placed and the whole thing seems almost empty.  But...I had a reason to plan it this way.

You see, it's inspired by this photo.

This photo has been the desktop of our computer for a long time now.  It is one of my husband's true loves.  This is the side of a building on the Harvard University campus.  Kevin took a course at Harvard during his first master's program and fell in love with this building.

So I decided to paint it.  But I did it from memory, that's why the details are a little bit skewed.  I like that my trees have a bit more detail, but do lament the fact that I didn't include horizontal strokes for the yellow paint.  I also decided to go with a much more subdued yellow.  The actual building is a little intense.

So...an obscure painting has a little meaning now.  Hopefully it makes it a bit more special.
